as a tribute to the historical roots of its site, twenty local artists came together to showcase their artworks at the Retrospective exhibition held in conjunction with the annual design conference, kyoorius designyatra in malaysia. set in an old building, the exhibition space was rather challenging as there were neither furniture pieces nor lighting to work with. the right ambience was essential as well; here’s where a rustic-eclectic theme was employed to re-enact the feeling of being in the yesteryear.

to execute this, a collection of loaned vintage chairs, tabletops and lamps was used as part of the display space. to create individual display areas, vintage furniture was stacked up atop each other while lamps were loosely placed around to illuminate the space. every single piece was hand-assembled on-site – and all without using a single screw. overall, the entire backdrop was kept absolutely clean and open, so that the focus was entirely on the art installations.
